Ike Carrier Strike Group and Wasp Amphibious Ready Group Link in Mediterranean

The Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (IKECSG) and Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (WSP ARG) have met up in the Mediterranean Sea.

Vessels included in the photos above:
  • Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69)
  • Amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD-1), which is carrying #Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU)
  • Harpers Ferry-class dock landing ship USS Oak Hill (LSD-51)
  • Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG-58)
  • Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Gravely (DDG-107)
  • Royal Navy Daring-class air-defense destroyer HMS Duncan (D 37)
The San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS New York (LPD-21) and Blue Ridge-class Amphibious Command Ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20) have also entered the Mediterranean.
The United States Department of Defense has stated that the IKECSG, which will remain in region until it’s replaced by the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG), is deployed “to promote regional stability and deter aggression,” in reference to heightened tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.
