Three NYPD Officers Wounded in Machete Attack, Terrorism Investigation Launched

Date:

Three New York City police officers were wounded last night during New Years Eve celebrations when a suspect attacked them with a machete.

According to authorities and local media, 19 year old Trevor Bickford attacked the officers at around 10:11 p.m. at the intersection of Eighth Ave. and W. 52nd St. One of the wounded officers, an eight year veteran on the force, received a laceration to his head while another, who had graduated from the academy a day before on Friday, also suffered a laceration to the head, as well as a skull fracture.

One of the officers opened fire on Bickford, which wounded him in the shoulder. Bickford was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for treatment along with the officers, who are all expected to survive.

A counter-terrorism investigation has been launched into the attack, as Bickford was said to have posted jihadist messages online saying he traveled to New York City to carry out an attack targeting police.
