On Thursday, the United States Pentagon announced that an American special forces helicopter raid killed senior ISIS leader and key facilitator Bilal al-Sudani, along with 10 other militants.
In a statement, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin announced that “on orders from the President the U.S. military conducted an assault operation in northern Somalia that resulted in the death of a number of ISIS members, including Bilal-al-Sudani, an ISIS leader in Somalia and a key facilitator for SIS’s global network,” adding that “Al-Sudani was responsible for fostering the growing presence of ISIS in Africa and for funding the group’s operations worldwide, including in Afghanistan.”
There were no civilian casualties reported as a result of the raid. There were also no casualties sustained by American forces.
