Venezuela Claims Victory at Reported HMS Trent Withdrawal, Decreases Military Exercise

As this publication reported on December 28th, 2023, Venezuelan President Maduro launched “General Domingo Antonio Sifontes” joint exercise after the deployment of HMS Trent to Guyana.

Venezuelan Defense Minister Padrino has just announced that the HMS Trent withdrew from its previous operating area. He is claiming this as a victory and has thus ordered the partial demobilization of the exercise around Guyana.

There has been no comment from the British government. However, immediately following the launch of the exercise, Guyana President Ali publicly announced a recommitment to peaceful negotiations. He also announced that Guyana has “no plan” to go to war in Venezuela.
