Argentine Vice President Fernandez de Kirchner Narrowly Escapes Assassination

A 35-year old Brazilian National, Fernando Sabag Montiel, has been arrested after attempting to shoot Argentine Vice President Fernandez de Kirchner during a rally outside her residence in Recoleta, Buenos Aires. This occurred approximately at 2045 EST.

It is not currently clear if the pistol was loaded or if it failed to discharge. However, it is clear the Vice President would have been severely injured if not killed from such a short range blast. This is developing.
