According to a U.S. Government source to the Associated Press, the Biden Administration is expected to redesignate the Houthis as a terrorist organization “soon.” Three people who spoke on a condition of anonymity confirmed the decision to the AP.

While a timeline has not been announced, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby did tell press in November that the Biden Administration was weighing the decision after the Houthi seizure of a merchant vessel earlier that month.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken delisted the Houthis as both a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) and as specially designated global terrorists in early 2021 to align efforts to aid the people of Yemen.
