On February 19th, the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense reported that 24 PLA aircraft and 8 PLAN vessels were detected operating around Taiwan.
11 of those 24 aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s southwest Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
This comes as tensions are heightened between China and Taiwan over the recent deaths of Chinese fishermen who were chased by the Taiwanese Coast Guard in the area of the Kinmen Islands, as well as the increasing dialogue between Taiwan and the United States.
China does not recognize Taiwan as an independent state and has consistently intruded into the Taiwanese ADIZ with aircraft and naval vessels. China also does not recognize the Median Line or the prohibited and restricted lines around the Kinmen Islands.
