DRC Meets with Rebels

On Tuesday December 13th, the DRC government attended talks hosted by the M23 rebel group in Kibumba, North Kivu province. The DRC government had previously insisted several times that they would not meet with the M23, referring to them as a terrorist organization. However they appear to have changed their minds as they sent delegates to meet with the rebels, alongside envoys from the East African Community Reaction Force, and MONUSCO, the UN’s mission in DRC.

The content of the talks is presently unknown, though any dialogue at all is assuredly a step in a more peaceful direction.
