IRGC Quds Force Commander Reportedly Killed in Israeli Airstrike

According to Israeli sources, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s Corps Quds Force Commander, Ismail Qaani, was killed during an Israeli strike in the Syrian countryside.

The strike targeted the residence of Maher al-Assad where several individuals were meeting following the escalation in violence over the Al-Aqsa mosque incident. The strike killed several people inside the compound, including the IRGC commander.

This information has not been confirmed by Iranian sources as of this publication. However, local Syrian media did report that Qaani landed in Damascus yesterday.

Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei appointed Qaani as Commander of the Quds Force on 3 January 2020 after General Qasem Soleimani was killed by a targeted U.S. drone strike near Baghdad International Airport.

This is developing.
