A temporary pedestrian bridge in Espoo, a city near the Finnish capital of Helsinki, collapsed this morning, injuring approximately 24 individuals, most of whom were children, according to local rescue services.
The Helsinki Hospital Authority confirmed in a statement that none of the injuries sustained were life-threatening.
As per a report from Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat, the children were eighth-grade students returning from a field trip.
The police revealed that the temporary bridge, constructed from plywood, was put in place due to ongoing construction in the area.
Finnish media outlets released images showing at least five individuals lying on the ground, receiving aid from rescue workers.
