Russia Reaches Deep into Ukraine to Strike Rail and Fuel Infrastructure

The head of Ukrainian Railways, Oleksandr Kamyshin said that Russia attacked a total of five railway facilities earlier today. The attacks took place in central and western Ukraine, noticeably far from the front lines. An oil refinery in central Ukraine was also destroyed by the Russians. According to the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov, Russian warplanes successfully destroyed 56 targets in Ukraine overnight.

 

These attacks which were carried out by a combination of missiles and war planes, appear to have been done with the objective of slowing Ukrainian logistical movements of supplies and fuel needed by Ukrainian forces in the east. In terms of casualties from the attacks, Ukrainian authorities claim that at least five people were killed by the strikes in central Vynnytsia region.

 

For those interested, here is the full statement on the attacks from the Russian Ministry of Defense, “The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue a special military operation in Ukraine. Long-range high-precision weapons destroyed six traction substations in the areas of the railway stations RED, ZDOLBUNOV, ZHMERINKA, BERDICHEV, KOVEL and KOROSTEN, through which foreign weapons and military equipment of the Ukrainian group of forces in Donbas are supplied.

 

During the day, high-precision air-launched missiles hit 27 Ukrainian military facilities. Including destroyed: four command posts, an ammunition depot in the SLAVYANSK region of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the headquarters of the Right Sector terrorist group in NOVOGRODOVKA, as well as 16 strongholds and places of concentration of manpower and military equipment. During the day, operational-tactical and army aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces hit 82 military facilities of Ukraine. Among them: 4 command posts, 76 areas of concentration of manpower and military equipment of the enemy, as well as two fuel depots. Rocket troops dealt 15 strikes.

 

The following were hit: the starting position of the Tochka-U tactical missile system, three command posts, an artillery battery and 10 areas of concentration of manpower and military equipment. Up to 40 personnel and 17 armored vehicles and vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were destroyed. During the day, Russian air defense systems shot down four Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles in the areas of IZYUM, DONETSK and KHARKIV settlements.

 

In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, the following have been destroyed: 141 aircraft, 110 helicopters, 570 unmanned aerial vehicles, 265 anti-aircraft missile systems, 2554 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 283 multiple rocket launchers, 1104 field artillery and mortar guns, as well as 2380 units of special military vehicles.”
