Killnet DDoS Attack Impacting PKN Orlen Refinery, Poland

Russian hacking group, Killnet, threatened “Western” energy companies today in several telegram posts. Specifically the threats were directed at several checmical plants in Scanzorosciate, Italy and the Polish energy conglomerate PKN Orlen. The group threatened to carry out Distributed Denial of Service attacks on the public facing sites of these companies and actual infrastructure of the plants themselves.

Outages have been reported on the PKN Orlen official sites since 1335 EST. The Railway Information Exchange Portal system is currently down. Hackers of the Killnet affiliated Legion Cyber Special Forces have posted several screenshots to their telegram account showing the targeting of petrol stations throughout Europe that are subsides of PKN Orlen, however it is not clear if these attacks are having an impact at the actual refineries and stations.

Killnet is a pro-Russian hacker group known for its DoS (denial of service) and DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks on several government institutions in several countries during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. They have carried out several attacks on government and commercial entities in Moldova, Italy, Czech Republic, and Romania since the invasion.

This is developing and will be updated if further damages are reported.
