Casualties After Rocket Attack On Khor Mor Gas Field, Chamchamal, Iraq

Update (1043 EST): Conflicting reports coming in saying no casualties. Will update when confirmed. Rockets also reportedly struck a warehouse.

Several Katyusha rockets have struck the outer fence of the Dana Gas Company’s Khor Mor gas field in Chamchamal, Sulaymaniyah Governate Iraq. Local media is reporting casualties. The explosions happened near Kirkuk. The field has apparently ignited, but this is not confirmed after the two rockets struck infrastructure there.

Dana Gas PJSC is a publicly traded natural gascompany, based in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates(UAE). Incorporated and listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange in 2005, Dana Gas is the largest non-government owned natural gas company in the Middle East, with operations in Egypt, Iraqi Kurdistan, and the UAE. According to Dana Gas: “The Kurdistan Gas Project was established in 2007 when Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum entered into an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) for exclusive rights to appraise, develop, produce, market, and sell hydrocarbons from the Khor Mor and Chemchemal fields in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). The government benefited from having a stable supply of gas for power generation in the region. Production from the gas processing plant in Khor Mor and the 180 km pipeline supplies gas to power stations in Chemchemal, Bazian and Erbil now generating over 2000 MW of electricity.”

Dana Gas’ net share of production in Iraqi Kurdistan was approximately 26,000 barrels (4,100 m3) of oil equivalent per day during 2017 and the first half of 2018. By late 2018, the company had expanded the Khor Mor plant and implemented improvements to de-bottleneck, increasing production capacity by 30%. The facility was producing 400 million cubic feet (11 million cubic metres) of gas, more than 15,000 barrels per day (2,400 m3/d) of natural-gas condensate, and 1,000 tonnes per day of liquefied petroleum gas.  as of late 2018.
