Azerbaijani and Armenian Officials Meet in Geneva Despite War Crimes

Today, a bilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia was held in Geneva.

This is the second meeting following one that was held in Brussels on August 31, 2022 between the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan with the participation of the President of the Council of the European Union Charles Michel in accordance with the task given to foreign ministers to prepare the text of the peace agreement. Since that meeting fighting has broken out in the border and vicious war crimes have been committed by the Azerbaijanis.

Azerbaijan laid out 5 principles that Armenia must agree to in order for a peace to be achieved.

From the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry:

“During the meeting, Azerbaijan proposed to hold the next meeting of the bilateral commission on delimitation in October, not in November of the current year, as previously agreed, taking into account the tension on the delimited border.

In accordance with the tripartite statements signed by Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia and the agreements reached between the leaders, the complete withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, the preliminary agreements reached within the framework of the tripartite commission under the leadership of the deputy prime ministers, and the transport and communication lines in a short time stressed the need to open it and make progress in the work on delimitation.

Touching on humanitarian issues, the minister emphasized the importance of clarifying the fate of nearly 4,000 missing Azerbaijanis, the inadmissibility of the Armenian side’s continued placement of mines on the territory of Azerbaijan, which caused numerous tragic losses, and that this is a gross violation of Armenia’s obligations under the Trilateral Declaration and a war crime.”
