On Friday, the body camera footage from the October attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), was made public by San Francisco law enforcement officials, following a court order by a judge in the city. The order to release the footage was granted after a group of news organizations filed a motion on January 11.

On October 28, David DePape, a 42-year-old nudist activist, broke into the Pelosi residence with the intent of kidnapping then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, prosecutors said in a pretrial hearing. As DePape was unable to locate Nancy Pelosi, he instead attacked her husband, Paul Pelosi. DePape has pleaded not guilty to all charges which include both state and federal charges. His trial is set to begin on February 23, and he is currently being held in jail without bail. According to police, the incident occurred at 2:30 am, and the perpetrator and Paul Pelosi engaged in a struggle over a hammer, and then the perpetrator “violently” assaulted Paul Pelosi, according to the police. Paul Pelosi was taken to a hospital where he underwent “successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands,” a spokesman for Nancy Pelosi said at the time. DePape allegedly intended to attack other high-profile figures such as President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom, and actor Tom Hanks.
