Up To 40% Of Ukraine’s Energy System Is Gone

Kyiv residents are struggling with water and electricity shortages following Russian missile strikes on energy facilities on October 31. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that rolling blackouts would continue due to extensive damage to Ukraine’s power system.

Up to 40% of Ukraine’s energy system was destroyed by Russian attacks. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Nov. 1 that Ukraine had to stop exporting electricity to European countries “due to Russian missile and drone attacks which destroyed 30-40% of its energy system.”

Citizens of Ukraine are filling up and stocking what water they can find, with the anticipation that electricity and basic supplies may be harder to come by until repairs or aid is provided.
