What You Need to Know:

A 67-year-old Australian man has been missing in Zimbabwe, near Victoria Falls National Park, for nine days.

The man was staying less than two miles from the National Park and had told management at his accommodation that he planned to visit the park on February 17th, the day he went missing.

However, despite a thorough search conducted by police, drones, professional trackers, and sniffer dogs, the man has not been located.

Peculiarly, CCTV Security camera footage does not capture the man entering the almost 6000 acre National Park at all.

Tinashe Farawo, Zimbabwe’s National Parks and Wildlife Management Spokesperson told reporters, “We have replayed the CCTV footage, physical records at the entrance of the falls have no record of him entering and our search team has been checking the rainforest. There is no sign of him. We are looking at other leads because it seems he never entered the rainforest.”

In the first half of 2022, nearly 1000 people were reported missing in Zimbabwe, with 700 of those cases closed after the individuals were located. Kidnappings and forced disappearances are somewhat common in the country, although the fate of the missing tourist remains unknown.
