Copenhagen Mall Shooting Results in Multiple Fatalities

Date:

Danish police reported that several people were murdered in a shooting at a Copenhagen shopping center on Sunday. They added that they had detained a 22-year-old Danish male and could not exclude the possibility that it was an “act of terrorism.” The shooting occurred in Field’s Mall, known as one of the largest in Scandinavia.

Chief Police Inspector Soren Thomassen spoke to media outlets about further investigations into this act, but rebuffed questions about potential motives or if he was already known to police. Danish Media have published a grainy photo of the alleged attacker.

According to an eyewitness on the ground, “people first suspected a thief…Then I suddenly heard shots and threw myself behind the counter inside the store.” Fear from witnesses and bystanders was more than evident on the late Sunday of this devastating attack.

The shooting occurred a week after a large-scale shooting in the neighboring country of Norway, when police allege a Norwegian man of Iranian descent opened fire during an LGBTQ event, leaving two people dead and more than 20 others injured.

This story is still developing.
