Six people were shot and killed, and ten were left injured in a shooting that occurred at around 2am PT in Sacramento, California, on the morning of April 3rd. It took place near the Golden 1 Center, in an area that revitalized as an entertainment zone recently. Bars and restaurants have began to fill with customers as people emerge from pandemic conditions. Police do not have anyone in custody Reuters reported, and that they are still searching for suspects.

Mayor of Sacramento, Darrell Steinberg, spoke on Twitter regarding the shooting:

At a news conference Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester said that police were patrolling the area at about 2 a.m. when they heard gunfire. They found a large crowd gathered on the street at the scene, and six people dead. The ten injured by the shooting were transported or took themselves to hospitals. Authorities reportedly don’t know whether one or multiple suspects were involved and are also asking for help from the public in identifying suspects. Lester did not give specifics on the type of gun used. This is “a very complex and complicated scene,” she said. Lester issued a plea to the public, asking for witnesses or anyone with recordings of the incident to contact police. No information was given on their conditions of those at the hospital. Reported by the Chicago Tribune.

Berry Accius, a community activist, said he came to the scene shortly after the shooting. “The first thing I saw was like victims. I saw a young girl with a whole bunch of blood in her body, a girl taking off glass from her, a young girl screaming saying, ‘They killed my sister.’ A mother running up, ‘Where’s my son, has my son been shot?’”. -CT

Residents were asked to avoid the area, which is packed with restaurants and bars, including the London nightclub near where the shooting happened. Police reportedly have the club closed up, and photos from this morning show police still cordoning the areas off.
