Norwegian Prime Minister Store has announced significant cabinet reshuffling this morning in the face of international crises, the primary concern for Oslo being the ongoing war in Ukraine. He told press “The country needs a foreign minister who can spend all (his or her) time on the job.” He was most likely referring to the scandal erupting with now former Foreign Minister Huitfeldt who admitted to trading public stocks while in a powerful government role. This revelation has been considered a key aspect of the nation-wide elections five weeks ago in which the Conservatives, for the first time in 70 years, ended up with more votes.

Huitfeldt was replaced by Espen Barth Eide, the Climate Minister who had previously served as foreign minister in 2012-2013. In addition to this change the Ministers of Fisheries, Local Government and Labour policy left the government, while two moved to new posts. A new position for Digitalisation and Public Administration was also created, expanding the cabinet from 18 to 20 members. The announcement also said that the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy will be called the Ministry of Energy beginning in 2024.
