Russia has accused Ukraine of attempting to assassinate President Vladimir Putin after the Kremlin was purportedly targeted by two explosive drones overnight. The Russian military said that both drones were intercepted by electronic warfare means, however, footage shows that at least one of the drones detonated within the walls of the Kremlin. No injuries or serious damage was reported.

Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the incident a “terrorist attack” and the Kremlin warned that Russia “reserves the right to take retaliatory measures.”

Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin released a statement, saying that “The Kiev terrorist regime, having seized an entire state, threatens the security of Russia, Europe and the whole world,” adding that “There can be no negotiations with the Zelensky regime. We will demand the use of weapons that are capable of stopping
and destroying the Kiev terrorist regime.”

Ukraine has denied involvement, with presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak stating that “Ukraine has nothing to do with drone attacks on the Kremlin. We do not attack the Kremlin…it is extremely unfavorable in terms of preparing our offensive actions.” He also dismissed the incident as “staged” to “justify massive strikes on Ukrainian cities, civilians, and infrastructure.”
