More From Me

Recent reports from Russian Telegram channels reveal that students at various universities in Moscow have received draft notices in their dormitories. This move has sparked concerns about the authorities’ intentions.

At Moscow State University’s Postgraduate and Student dormitory, 2nd-4th year students discovered dormitory commandants waiting for them with military summonses. The students were directed to an office in the dormitory, where they received summonses for events “related to conscription.” Following this, they took the summonses and their certificates of deferment to local military enlistment offices.

Reserve Lt General Andrey Gurulev, a member of the State Duma Defence Committee, has reassured the public that recent changes to the conscription law would not impact students. However, it is speculated that this move could be part of an effort to collect data on students who may lose their exemptions upon completing their studies or facing expulsion.

At this time, it remains uncertain whether the students in question will actually be recruited into the Russian armed forces.
