Three Dead, Including Two Police Officers, in Japan Shooting

Date:

Three people were killed, including two police officers, during a shooting and stabbing attack in the Nagano Prefecture, central Japan, according to Japanese media.

Kyodo News reported that authorities responded to a call about a man chasing and stabbing a woman. After arriving on scene, two officers were shot by the suspect, who was armed with a rifle. The woman and two officers were transported to a local hospital, but all later died to their wounds. At least one other person was wounded by gunfire, a Nagano City police official told CNN.

The suspect, who was said to have been wearing camouflage, then fled the scene and barricaded himself in a nearby house of a local politician. The incident appears to still be active as gunfire can be heard in the area.

Details about the suspect and a potential motive remain unknown at this time.
