Russia Could Reward Civilians For Handing in Drugs to Police

Date:

In an attempt to tackle drug trafficking and consumption Russian parliament has suggested that the Ministry of Internal Affairs should pay civilians for handing drugs to the police. Vice Speaker of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov stated that police have insufficient resources to tackle Russia’s drug problem. In Russia, a popular drug-distributing method is bookmarks, secret locations in which drugs are hidden after being purchased online for a consumer to collect. Davankov’s proposal is for civilians who find bookmarks to alert authorities and hand the drugs over for a monetary reward. The amount of the monetary reward has been left ambiguous.
