21 PLA Aircraft Enter Taiwan ADIZ Amid Pelosi Visit

Date:

Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense has reported that 21 Chinese PLA aircraft entered its Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on August 2, 2022, which comes as United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan. It was not specified what time the incursions happened, so it is unclear if it was before, during or after Pelosi landed.

The aircraft involved included:

  • 8x J-11 fighter jets
  • 10x J-16 strike fighter jets
  • 1x KJ-500 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft
  • 1x Y-9 electronic warfare (EW) aircraft
  • 1x Y-8 Electronic signals intelligence (ELINT) aircraft

Earlier, the Ministry denied reports by Chinese state media that PLA Su-35s had crossed the Taiwan Strait, stating that it “is fake news.”
