10 Killed, 15 Injured In Remote Canadian Stabbing Spree

Date:

On Sunday Canadian Police announced they were still hunting for two suspects connected to a chain of stabbings in the Saskatchewan province that left 10 dead and 15 injured afterwards. Thirteen crime scenes were reportedly being investigated by Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The attacks happened at multiple locations, including James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon in Saskatchewan.

The stabbings were reported early in the morning Sunday, and at 8:20am local time police issued a province-wide dangerous persons alert. By the afternoon, similar alerts were also issued in Saskatchewan’s neighboring provinces Alberta and Manitoba. The two suspects were said to be traveling in a black Nissan Rogue last seen. Police said that some of the victims appeared to have been targeted by the suspects while others were attacked randomly. There may be additional injured victims who transported themselves to various hospitals, police told reporters at a news conference.

In response to the “mass casualties” on James Smith Cree Nation the community, along with the Chakastaypasin Band of the Cree Nation and Peter Chapman Band, declared a state of emergency at noon Sunday.

Police said the last information they had from the public was that the suspects were sighted in Saskatchewan’s capital of Regina around lunchtime. There have been no sightings since. “If in the Regina area, take precautions & consider sheltering in place,” the RCMP said in a message on Twitter. “Do not leave a secure location. DO NOT APPROACH suspicious persons. Do not pick up hitchhikers. Report suspicious persons, emergencies or info to 9-1-1. Do not disclose police locations.”

This manhunt comes as fans swarmed on Labor Day long weekend in Regina for a sold-out Canadian Football League game between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Regina police said that with the help of the Royal Canadian Mounted police (RCMP) they were investigating on several fronts to locate and arrest the suspects and had “deployed additional resources for public safety throughout the city, including the football game at Mosaic Stadium”.
