Former White House National Security Advisor John Bolton Admits to Planning Coup in Venezuela

Date:

Former White House National Security Advisor, John Bolton, admitted to planning coups in foreign countries during the Trump administration while speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper.

The comments came as he was addressing the yesterday’s congressional hearing on January 6, in which he argued was “not an attack on American democracy,” but rather a “once-in-a-lifetime occurrence.” He added that former President Donald Trump was not competent enough to pull of a coup, saying “As somebody who has helped plan coups d’etat – not here but you know other places – it takes a lot of work. And that’s not what he did.”

When Tapper asked Bolton where he was referring to, he mentioned Venezula and that he won’t “get into the specifics” of it. Bolton then said that “It turned out not to be successful. Not that we had all that much to do with it but I saw what it took for an opposition to try and overturn an illegally elected president and they failed.” Bolton had previously voiced support for Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido.

Tapper later told Bolton “I feel like there’s other stuff you aren’t telling me,” to which Bolton replied “I’m sure there is,” insinuating that he had planned coups elsewhere.
