Violent Clashes in Jalisco, Mexico

Violent Clashes in Jalisco, Mexico

Date:

On Tuesday, May 30, violent clashes took place in the municipality of Teocaltiche, Jalisco in Mexico. The clashes resulted in the death of one individual and saw the burning of 15 vehicles. The victim was reportedly a civilian driving a van who was passing by before being shot. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries. Footage circulating on social media shows the gunfire within the region. Images show destroyed cartel monsters (armoured vehicles). These armoured vehicles were labelled with the cartel acronym CJNG.

The clashes were reportedly between groups affiliated with the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel. However, there were also reports that the clashes took place between a criminal group and the Mexican National Guard. According to Dominio Püblico the burning of vehicles was to create blockades to prevent further state forces from joining the clashes. It is possible that both clashes could have occurred.
