Russia’s Medvedev Signals that Russia Will Not Support Armenia Against Azerbaijan Offensive

Date:

In a statement posted to his Telegram channel, Russian deputy chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev lashed out against Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and signaled that Russia will not support Armenia against an ongoing Azerbaijani offensive against Nagorno-Karabakh.

Medvedev posted:

One day, one of my colleagues from a fraternal country told me: “Well, I’m a stranger to you, you won’t accept me.” I answered what I had to: “We will judge not by biography, but by actions.” Then he lost the war, but strangely stayed in place. Then he decided to blame Russia for his mediocre defeat. Then he gave up part of the territory of his country. Then he decided to flirt with NATO, and his wife defiantly went to our enemies with cookies.
Guess what fate awaits him…

Since the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, Pashinyan frequently criticized Russia and its peacekeepers for not protecting ethnic Armenians in the region against what he said was continued Azerbaijani aggression.

Medvedev’s “flirt with NATO” statement might be in reference to recent joint military exercises Armenia held with the United States, which Pashinyan said was done because “CTSO has not fulfilled and is not fulfilling its obligations towards Armenia.” Russia denounced the exercises as “unfriendly steps.” Likewise, Medvedev explicitly called out Pashinyan’s wife recently traveling to Ukraine earlier this month, where she met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
