U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss Resigns From Office

U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss Resigns From Office

Date:

The embattled Prime Minister is leaving 10 Downing Street due to failed administrative policies dealing with the financial downturn, and resignations of senior members within Truss’s cabinet.

The perennial debate between the Torys and the Labour party will rage on to find a successor to what is now the shortest tenure by a Prime Minister in the history of the United Kingdom. Truss’s term in office will be a mere 52 days before her resignation will take effect. The shortest tenure before her stretches back to 1827 when George Canning had a tenure of 119 days.

Truss’s drastic U-turn on economic policies led to this fateful exit. After the sterling plunged when the plan was announced, senior economic figure Kwasi Kwarteng was fired by Truss. The policy backlash became so drastic, that there was open dissent and derision coming from members of her own party due to the economic storm that came.

A new vote for Prime Minister is expected next week. Stay tuned.
